What is Ketoconazole?

Ketoconazole is one of the antifungal medicines used to treat skin infections. It only cures skin infections that are caused by fungus.

It treats athlete's foot, rashes due to sweat, dandruff, groin area infection, skin patches, and pityriasis versicolor.

You can use it in the form of shampoo, cream, tablets, and gel, as suggested by your doctor. Shampoos are used to treat dandruff. All online and offline stores sell it.

If you are buying it to treat Pityriasis versicolor, it is a must to have a valid prescription. Ketoconazole tablets can be used only in case of Cushing's syndrome.

You cannot buy tablets without a prescription. So, using its cream, shampoo, or tablet is better if your doctor advises you.

How to use it?

Usage of Ketoconazole depends on the form of the medicine you are using.

Tablets

If you use a tablet to treat Cushing's syndrome, you must consume it directly with water. Do not chew or crush the tablet. You can have it right after a meal and at the same time daily for better results.

Cream:

  1. If you use its cream, apply it on the skin.
  2. Wash the area and pat dry.
  3. Apply some amount of cream on the affected area and let it dry. You can use it twice daily.

Shampoo

If using its shampoo to treat dandruff, apply it to your scalp directly. Massage with light hands and wash away the shampoo. Before cleaning, make sure to keep it for 3 to 5 minutes. You can use it two times a week.

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you its dosage after going through the age, health status, and more. They will generally start with a low dosage amount and increase after some time. Do not reduce or increase the dosage yourself.

Missed dose

Medication only works correctly if you stop using it in between. Completing its course as prescribed is mandatory to prevent the risk of reinfection. Take the missed dose once you remember. If it's time for the next dose soon, skip one. Do not compensate for the missed dose by doubling.

Overdose

Overdosing is not at all recommended. Overdosing on cream and shampoo won't be as harmful as overdosing on pills. Visit the nearby hospital if you find overdosing.
